World Cup Qualifiers: Ottmar Hitzfeld starts shaping up Swiss team - Surprise call up for Second division defender



BERNE, Aug 28 (Reuters) - Ottmar Hitzfeld after last month's goalless draw with Italy gave a surprise call up to defender Alain Nef today for Switzerland potentially decisive World Cup qualifier at home to Greece on September 5.

Nef who plays for Triestina in the Italian Serie B has not played for his country since their shocking 2-1 home defeat to minnows Luxemburg a year ago. Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Pirmin Schwegler has also received the first call up under the leadership of Hitzfeld. English Premier League defenders Philipp Degen of Liverpool FC and Arsenal's Johan Djourou were left out of the squ! ad.

Switzerland, unbeaten in their last seven games, face Greece in a top-of-the-table clash in European Group Two in Basel. Both teams have 13 points from six outings. The squad will travel to Riga for another qualifier against Latvia four days later.
