NCAAF Wrapup: 3 of the Top 5 Fall

What a weekend of upsets in College Football as 3 of the top 5 ranked teams fell. #1 USC lost to Oregon State on Thursday, #4 Florida fell to Ole Miss, and #3 Georgia got destroyed by #8 Alabama.

Oregon State defeats #1 USC 27-21
It seems like ages ago this upset occurred, but it was only last Thursday. This upset set the tone for the entire weekend. USC never really got things together despite Sanchez playing decent. His late interception obviously killed them, but the team as a whole lost this game. Oregon State is an up-and-coming team and this is their first signature win to build upon.

Mississippi defeats #4 Florida 31-30
A blocked extra point with three minutes left, are you kidding me? Ole Miss always plays the Gators tough. In the past two years before this game Florida's combined margin of victory was four points against the Rebels. Tebow had a chance to win later, but overthrew a wide open wide receiver. Tebow has struggled a ! bit this season, and that is something Urban Meyer has to get worked out.

#8 Alabama defeats #3 Georgia 41-30
Nick Saban had his Crimson Tide ready to go and it showed. This game was never really close as right from the get-go Alabama dominated. Georgia tried the "black out," but it had no effect on the game. If anything, it pumped up the Crimson Tide. With this win, Alabama has legitimized themselves as a national championship contender.

SEC Outlook
The SEC East has a surprising look with the Vanderbilt Commodores now in first. Florida and Georgia both lost so this part of the conference is wide open. I still see one of these team's winning the East, and it will likely be the winner from when Florida and Georgia face off. Alabama and LSU still remain undefeated in the West. The winner of these too sections meet at the end of the season in the SEC Championship where the winner gets an automatic BCS bid.

Other Upsets
The! re were other big upsets this weekend not including Top 5 team! s. #9 W isconsin fell to Michigan proving they were overrated. The Big 10 is a weak conference and I can see any of those teams beating each other at any time. Another weak conference is the ACC. #16 Wake Forest got upended by Navy and #20 Clemson lost their second game of the season to the Maryland Terrapins. Our favorite Cinderella in #23 East Carolina lost for the second straight week ending their chances at a BCS bid this season.

Looking Ahead
With USC, Florida, and Georgia all losing the National Championship picture takes a new turn. Oklahoma, LSU, Alabama, Missouri, and Texas are five undefeated candidates that remain. Obviosuly Florida, Georgia, and USC are by no means out of the picture, but they cannot afford another loss and will have to work their way back to the top. Oklahoma was my preseason pick to win it all and I am sticking with them because besides the SEC, the Big 12 is the most difficult conference in the country.
